The good ship Graun
[Updated] Something by way of an announcement: I’m (arguably) abandoning new media for old media in the form of Guardian Unlimited – I start on Monday as new media reporter for MediaGuardian.
I’ve been freelancing for paidContent for most of this year and have to add that I’m in awe of what Rafat is doing. It is a truly superb site and proof, if we needed it, of what can be achieved online. But he’s going interstellar anyway and will do just fine without little old me…
It feels rather like the start of a new school term. I’ll have to get myself to WHSmiths for a new satchel, protractor – that kind of thing. As for what’s in store at MediaGuardian – we’ll have to wait and see! Suffice to say there is so much going on in this space at the moment from kamikaze newspapers mashing their news teams together to the fascinating world of Second Life. That’s all only going to get bigger, wider and fatter as the pipes do. How exciting! I’m going to be extremely busy…

Onwards, upwards, outwards and all that. Very well done. Can’t think of anything bad to say about the move, so I won’t
All the very best

Good luck on the new job! Don’t forget to get yourself some new clothes too. When I was in elementary school I remember loving the new socks I would get in the fall just before school Nothing feels as good as brand new socks in the cool fall weather.

I hope this means that the Guardian will start containing more reports of events, grassroots stuff, insider info, etc rather than that you’ll be covering whatever-google-bought-this-week! Best of luck – and congratulations!!

(INNOCENT LOOK)
So, will they be letting you loose on any commissioning budget for freelances..?
October 27th, 2006 at 19:02
Oh Lordy – I hope so! But please don’t rely on me for the mortgage…

jemima, although i just started at PC, i never got to meet you. Best of luck to you at the Guardian. What a spectacular position to have.

Hey congratulations, Jemima. Old media? Well, they are at the pointy end.
Best of luck, and hope the other kids don’t push you around to much in first term.

JK:
Congratulations to you and the Guardian. I do love those folks and — in spite of their bad sense to publish me — I think no one in print does a better job covering media. This is a big loss for PaidContent but nonetheless, it will be a good move for you. And knowing Rafat, he will recover even from this. Cheers. -j

It’s good to know that talent and hard work get recognised but I’ll miss your caustic remarks about conference venues with no wi-fi access. Blow their their socks off!!

Jemima,
The most important is to continue to read you, whereever you are. What a jump from dotjournalism.uk to Media Guardian

Jemima
Congrats re your next grand adventure. You were/are one of main inspirations and source of insight for me (a former WSJ reporter in Europe & the U.S.) as I learned (am discovering) how to tip toe into social media… like the legion of other fans, I’ll be following you to read your thoughts in your new “place” … and come mid Dec. I’ll eager share our social netowrk launch with you
